Jasenovac – A fitting memorial

Ćirilica An hours drive into Croatia from the Serbian border along the A3 (E-70) motorway is a turning south to the village of Brocice. A few minutes drive beyond on the north bank of the river Sava is the site of the WWII Jasenovac concentration camp, burial ground, memorial and museum. The camp was set up by the Ustasa led wartime Independant State of Croatia and was active between August 1941 – April 1945. The estimated number of people murdered at Jasenovac vary up to 700,000 with ethnic Jews, Serbs and Roma being  the main victims of horribly sadistic extermination methods. Despite the fact that the Jasenovac victim numbers are

London charity invites British MPs to mark 21 August as memorial day for victims of ISC

Photos by Nenad Obradović (nenad@obradovic.co.uk see www.obradovic.co.uk) The Jasenovac and Holocaust Memorial Foundation (JHMF) has tabled a proposal to the European Parliament to mark 21 August as International Day of Remembrance of Victims of the Ustasha regime of the Independent State of Croatia (ISC) during World War II. Through a network of concentration camps, killing of Serbs, Jews and Gypsies was conducted on an industrial scale in the Nazi puppet regime which encompassed all of modern day Croatia and Bosnia. 21 August 1941 marks the date that the killing machine started. All British parliamentarians have been invited to support this initiative and a special request for support was also sent to the chairman

Ćirilica In Memoriam : former Honorary Consul of Serbia, Kalman Samuels/1927.-2011./, Montreal/1/ Kalman Samjuels Often, while resuming past days, with joy and respect I do remember late Mr. Kalman Samuels, a distinguished lawyer and Honorary Consul of Yugoslavia and Serbia in Canada. Having had a privilege of working with him in the best interest of Serbia and its citizens in Canada, during the period of 2006. and 2007, added great value to my personal and professional life. Several times we discussed turbulent global situation and its prospects. Never had we neglected the tragic genocidal history of The Independent State of Croatia that had exterminated hundreds of thousands of Serbian civilians

The Ustashe killed 850 Serbs out of a total of 1,000 residents of this Serbian village in the Herzegovina, and this village, according to a research done by the Japanese Asahi Shimbun paper, is the place which suffered the most in WWII in Europe. The exhibition was blessed by His Eminence the Bishop of the Zahumlje-Herzegovina and the Littoral, Grigorije, who said that the exhibition is important since it is in Belgrade “where there are many people who still do not know that there is Prebilovci with such

KNIFE FOR SLAUGHTERING SERB CHILDREN FROM KOZARA

YOU CAN’T HAVE YOUR RATINGS AND NAME YOUR VICTIMS, TOO

Ćirilica Both the victims and the killers have their names, but they also have roots and the reasons why they were what they were. The former were in pits, the latter were above the pits. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic in Jasenovac By Nenad Tadic Croatian President Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic paid a visit to Jasenovac and paid her respects to the victims of the Ustasha Independent State of Croatia (NDH) without any media escort or state delegation, as if she were going on a private visit. Astonishing film explores depths of genocide denial in Croatia

As Serbs living in Britain and elsewhere, perhaps we think we know enough about the genocide that was conducted against our people during WW2 in the Independent State of Croatia. Perhaps we should leave history to the past and instead focus on something positive today rather than dwell on painful memories from 70 years ago. Watch this film, it will change your mind. Public service broadcaster for Republika Srpska in Bosnia, RTRS, has transmitted this documentary about modern day attitudes to Jasenovac, the Ustaše extermination camp where more than 700,000 people were slaughtered. Most victims were Serbs but among them a huge number of  Roma, Jews and others. The programme asks

The Sea near the island of Pag swallowed thousands of men, women and children, Serbs and Jews. By Danka Kojadinovich Too many words have been spent in recent decades in attempts to analyze the civil wars of the late twentieth century in the Balkans. There were some analysts trying to atomize the Balkans in order to destabilize Europe, in the interest of the unilateral force, the US. There were some articles dealing with the influence of local (and less of the global) media on the escalation of ethnic and religious conflicts, attributing to them

October 14, Belgrade, Serbia: When Nazi flag is protected by FIFA and the US passport

But all was just peaceful, even though the Albanians have, with the help of NATO and USA, illegally stole Kosovo and Metohija, and cause troubles in other parts of Serbia as well. But the Serbs were tollerant. A general opinion was “Sport is to be played and enjoyed, so let the better one win.” During the match, the Albanians have launced a drone carrying a flag. The atmosphere exploded, and the fight started on the terrain. That’s how the mainstream media reports about the incident, and the world swallows it thinking: ” Oh,

GLOBAL JUSTICE OR GLOBAL DOMINATION

Ćirilica History is a teacher of life, says the old proverb. Hence, it should be regarded as a part of life and future, not only a part of the past.  We recall that the drive for redrawing the borders was one of the key objectives of aggressors in the First World War. The revision of history and results of the First and Second World Wars could prove to be but a front for the revision of borders The Great War began following the Austro-Hungarian ultimatum, one that everyone clearly knew that Serbia could not have possibly accepted. At the end of that same, 20th century, Serbia (the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia) was given a similar ultimatum by

One can sometimes get confused watching the Serbian people, doubting that drive has been given to each people”, said Bishop Atanasije at the opening of the First Gathering of Associations of Descendants and Supporters of Serbian War Victims in the 20th century.
